Costa Rica is a small, safe country with extreme geographical variations and is perfect for school group trips. With volcanic mountains, cloud forests, virgin rain forests and an incredible diversity of plant and animal life, Costa Rica is ideal for youth travel.

We can organise customised itineraries to all areas of Costa Rica, from the Caribbean to the Pacific coastlines, including visits to turtle breeding sanctuaries, hot springs, rural communities and Spanish language lessons.

We have been sending students to Costa Rica for many years with great success. School group trips can be designed to include Spanish lessons in our San Jose language school, which has modern and comfortable facilities and is located in a quiet and secure neighbourhood. Spanish classes are taught by fully qualified teachers experienced in teaching Spanish as a foreign language, and course content is designed in full consultation with the group leader.

The rest of the excursions and activities are conducted in Spanish and English and are chosen to suit the interests of the group as well as to give students an insight into Costa Rican culture. Accommodation is in local homestays or hotels during the Spanish language course, and in hostals or hotels when on the road.

Day 1 Arrive San Jose
Arrival in San José, private transfer to homestays
Day 2 San Jose
Morning: Spanish classes / visit National museum (Geography)

Afternoon: Orientation and dance class for all
Day 3 San Jose
Morning: Spanish classes/ Poas volcano excursion (Geography)

Afternoon: Visit to Museo de los Niños (former prison) for all
Day 4 San Jose
Morning: Spanish classes / visit InBio park (Geography)

Afternoon: visit downtown San Jose and the gold museum
Day 5 San Jose
Morning: Spanish classes / Irazu volcano visit (Geography)

Afternoon: Costa Rican cooking class for all
Day 6 Arenal Volcano and hot springs
Full day excursion to Arenal volcano and Baldi hot springs (whole group)
Day 7 San Jose
Morning: Spanish classes / Rainforest aerial tram (Geography)

Afternoon: Free
Days 8, 9, 10 Tortuguero Canals trip
Depart for 3 day/2 night Tortuguero Canals tour including transport, hotels, meals and tours. Return to San Jose on the third evening.
Day 11 Depart San Jose
Free day until group transfer to airport for departure

Spanish programme: 15 hours of Spanish tuition over 3 mornings, closed tuition group, all class materials included
Geography programme: 5 guided half day visits/excursions to places of local interest
Student accommodation: Homestay accommodation in San Jose x 8 nights – single or shared rooms, half board (breakfast and dinner). Hotel accommodation during Tortuguero tour x 2 nights – shared rooms, full board
Student meals: Breakfast and dinner at homestay/hotel; Lunches at school café/local restaurants
Free places for 2 group leaders: including hotel or homestay accommodation in San Jose x 8 nights – single rooms, half board – breakfast and lunch (lunches will take place at the school café/local café). Hotel accommodation during Tortuguero tour x 2 nights – single rooms, full board; all excursions.
Excursions/activities: 1 full day excursion, 4 afternoon activities/excursions and 3 day/2 night guided tour to Tortuguero jungle canals for whole group. All led by a member of San Jose school staff.
Return airport transfers to/from San Jose airport
